Style & Delivery
The style and delivery needle gets moved by putting people on film and then helping them modify habits that may feel comfortable to the presenter but not in the best service of the listener.
The well intended speaker/ leader isn’t serving us, they’re serving an agenda.
We conduct team coaching sessions or work 1-1 with everyone in your organization from new hires to CEOs on how to organize and deliver presentations that stick.
The style and delivery needle gets moved by putting people on film and then helping them modify habits that may feel comfortable to the presenter but not in the best service of the listener.
The content part means using more case examples (client stories). These could even be hypotheticals. It means using more metaphors to create meaning. In some cases where it’s applicable it means using demonstrations, etc.
Our best meetings are never successful if we “Get through all our slides,” they make room for early and consistent engagement!
I’m going to play (talk) and your role is to listen until I’m done. This works at the symphony but not in business. Not on a video call or in person.
Of course you have an agenda and a plan when you present. Keep that, but be nimble. Play a great short opener, then stop and engage. Make room for reactions, thoughts, not just questions based on your opening song (topics).
In almost every case if you stop and engage, the most important people will guide you. Your expertise is as vast as a Costco. Unless you engage early, you may end up putting steaks in a Vegans shopping cart. You still get to play your instruments (present your topics)….but now much more in a way that serves THEM!
Don’t take our word for it, take theirs…
Given the current shift to all virtual delivery, engagement becomes so much harder. Demos, client presentations, even every day meetings have all improved dramatically for me and my team via coaching from APJ. Tim and his group have a great toolkit to make any Zoom/Teams call successful. Their fees are also very reasonable and the ROI has been exceptional for us.
APJ has helped me personally multiple times over the years for big events and is my go to resource! Tim’s knack for working with you and your goals and not mandating a stock approach is refreshing. He’s also helped multiple others, at all levels within Lockton, hone their presentation skills so they authentically connect and reach their audience.
APJ was instrumental as we prepared for our annual investor conference. Tim helped us translate our text heavy slides into more examples and images. He also put all of our leaders on film to polish style and delivery. The feedback from our attendees was excellent.
Tim helped Jacobs Entertainment, Inc. tremendously. While the upper management of our gaming company are highly experienced speaking in front of others, Tim delicately helped our most senior leaders excel at becoming much better speakers. He emphasized their innate strengths and refined key areas where they could improve. In the end, all participants significantly improved their delivery skills and techniques. Ultimately, this translated into highly improved communication both internally to our suppliers, our outside points of contact and directly to our customers.
APJ has become an integral part of our highly competitive global awards program. Our selected teams present and pitch big ideas to a panel of C-Suite executives. These judges have no time for anything other than the point and need to be able to quickly rate and rank the teams. How APJ is able to move the needle significantly via mostly virtual coaching (across time zones, languages and cultures) is exceptional. APJ has helped our people translate mountains of very valid work into concise and captivating short presentations/stories. The feedback from the teams about their experiences and from judges on the skill and impact is incredible.
I’ve worked with probably a dozen different speaking coaches/classes over the years. APJ focuses on what people’s natural skills are, amplifies those, and uses natural ability to compensate for weak points. His approach really focuses on storytelling. It’s incredibly generative and applicable in every situation. Tim is the most effective and efficient speaking coach I’ve ever worked with. He just helped me for a recent talk and his builds were spot-on and the warmest-received parts by the audience.
